TpT Tuesday: On Social Networking

Does anyone else get slightly overwhelmed with all of the social networking opportunities there are out there?!?  I Facebook, blog, Pinterest, and Instagram and sometime feel like I can't keep up with it all!  I also try to separate my personal world from some of my networkings, but sometimes I struggle with figuring out that line.

For example, I've got a Facebook page for my TpT store.  I have hundreds of Facebook friends, many of which are teachers, but in trying to get followers for my store page I don't want to blast my friends with posts about school stuff and products that many of them don't care about.

I know that Instagram can be a great tool for networking, but a few months ago I decided to go private on there because kids from my school had figured out how to find teachers on there...  And let's face it, we don't want the kids seeing EVERYTHING we do on the weekends.

I started a separate Pinterest account for my TpT stuff, but I've found I already have a HUGE following on my original ("personal") account, so why bother with switching back and forth when I already have tons of people following me already?  If they don't want to see my other pins, they don't have to follow those boards, right?

I'm just rambling...  If any of you have any good suggestions for social networking, I'd love to get your input.  I don't want to overdo it, but I also don't want to underdo it either.  I don't want to overwhelm my friends and family, but I do want to use them as a tool to get more followers.

I didn't do a whole lot of new products this week, but I did manage to get three new items up!

Finally, I would LOVE if you would go "like" me on Facebook.  I'm thinking once I reach 100 followers on there I'll do a sale or do a giveaway.  Last week I asked for an idea for a new theme for materials and whoever gave me the first theme gets all of my creations for free...  So, gray chevron and bright colors it is!  I'm hoping to do fun little things like that, so you never know what may happen!

Happy Tuesday!

Fashion Friday: First Week

School starts in less than 2 weeks! I really have a hard time coming to terms with the fact that my summer vacation is pretty much over.  Wednesday starts 3 straight days of meetings, which is probably one of my least favorite parts of going back to school.  *sigh*

First Week of School

I've been trying to come up with some outfit ideas for the beginning of the year.  Outfit planning really speeds up the getting ready process, so I try to lay out my clothes or have a close idea for what I am going to wear ready the night before.  When I feel stuck in a style rut, I turn to my Pinterest boards or Polyvore and look for ideas on how to combine items I already have in my closet.

Our first week of school is only 4 days and Friday is a jeans and t-shirt day.  Monday night is Open House, though, so I need to have a nicer outfit ready that I can change into at school since I don't want to drive home in between.

I came up with these outfits almost all of which are items I own (or dupes of what I own).  Comfy is pretty much the trend here since I'll be pretty active and will have to be outside for recess and busy duties.  I don't know if I'll actually wear these exact outfits, but they're a starting point!  (The striped dress is one that I tried on last weekend at Target, but didn't purchase...  I'm thinking I'll go back for it, though, because it's perfect for school!)

What will you be wearing back to school?
Do you style and plan outfits ahead of time?

Fashion Friday: Giving in to Emerald

I don't feel like I was all that excited about emerald being hailed Pantone's Color of the Year, but I think I'm starting to warm up to it.  It may have been since we just passed St. Patrick's Day and green seems to be all over the place.  Green isn't a color I'm opposed to, but it's not necessarily one that I find myself drawn to when I'm shopping.  I have a few green / emerald items in my closet, but it's not a color that I find myself wearing all the time.  I tend to be drawn to warmer colors both in my wardrobe...  Pinks, corals, and yellows rule the roost in my closet!

Once again, Pinterest is to blame for some fabulous emerald inspiration...  Here are a few of my favorite pins and some items I have my eye on!

Factory Clare cardigan
Image via J.Crew Factory
I've recently been wanting to get my hands on a springy green cardigan like this one from the J.Crew Factory.  I'm feeling regret that I didn't snatch it up when I first saw it!  The hunt shall continue!

I think this outfit is totally a "me" look.  I can very much see myself rocking a look like this one...  Sunglasses included.

Image via Veronika's Blushing / Pinterest
Veronika is one of my favorite bloggers and I love how she styled this green dress in a more formal way for work.

Image via Pinterest / Polyvore
I've been really wanting to find some cute skirts for the spring and summer and I love this little green skirt!  This is a great neutral outfit that allows the green skirt to be the standout piece.

Smashbox - Photo Op Eye Shadow Trio
Image via Sephora
I wasn't exactly wowed by Sephora's Pantone emerald collection this year, but this little Smashbox trio seems like a nice way to add a pop of emerald into your eye makeup.

Have you given into the color emerald yet?
How have you incorporated emerald and greens into your wardrobe?

Sunday Social

It's time for Sunday Social over at A Complete Waste of Makeup!  This week's theme is Pinterest, so of course I had to participate!

I have over 5,000 pins on there, so choosing my favorites was a little bit of a challenge, so these are ones that have recently inspired me.

Favorite Outfit Pin
Image via Pinterest
I'm really wanting to add some green to my wardrobe. Maybe it's because emerald is the Pantone Color of the Year and it's been all over the place... Maybe it's because I really don't have much of it in my wardrobe. I can totally see myself in this outfit.

Favorite Food Pin
Image via Pinterest
For someone who has 602 recipe pins, I really don't cook very much.  I do love a good breakfast casserole, though, and that is one of the things that I've actually made a few times thanks to Pinterest.  This one made with biscuits and is my most recent breakfast casserole find!

Favorite Wedding Pin
Image via Pinterest
I resisted starting a wedding board on Pinterest for a really long time because I'm nowhere near getting married and I don't want to be that desperate single girl that's planning her dream wedding.  That said, I did finally give in because there really are some great ideas out there that I would like to have filed away for someday!

Favorite DIY / Craft Pin
Image via Pinterest
I think this is my favorite because I've actually made my own earring holder inspired by this pin!

My version!
This was also my first Pinterest project / DIY a few years ago, so it's kind of what started it all!

Favorite Quote / Verse / Lyric Pin
Image via Pinterest
I'm not sure this one is my favorite, but it is a really good reminder!

...And share one more favorite pin you love!
Image via Pinterest
I love this mix and match aspect of this living room.  I have a major urge to make everything match, so images like this inspire me to break out of that mindset.

***

On a side note, has anyone else tried the new pin embedding feature on Pinterest?  I like the concept, but I don't like that you can't see the pin in your post!  My text and formatting was all off and after several tries today I just gave up.  That said, if you do want to pin anything you see here, click the image and pin it directly from Pinterest since none of these images (other than the black frame) are originally mine.

Happy Sunday!

DIY Glitter Flats

Once again, Pinterest and blogs got the best of me and I was inspired to do a fun DIY project!

After my closet clean-out this week, I decided to try to glitterizing some old flats in an attempt to give some old shoes new life.  I searched "DIY glitter shoes" on Pinterest and found a bunch of pins linking to this project.  I also remembered that my friend Andi did a super cute glitter DIY to some shoes.  (You can see here post here.)

The perfect pair of shoes for this project was a pair of well-loved Target flats.  Due to lots of wear and the material of the shoes they were a little worn in spots and had pretty much been retired to the old shoe box in the sky (otherwise known as the top shelf of my closet).

Worn, but still in decent shape!
Before shot!
I stopped into JoAnne Fabrics (the new one by my house is much more like a Michaels than a fabric store) and sought out some glitter.  Since the flats were black and this was my first attempt at this project I knew I wanted to go for something dark.  I also wanted to get a super fine glitter (following a few recommendations I found online).

3 materials
I ended up getting this super pretty glitter in "onyx."  It's very dark, but with  blueish sliver glow about it.  It's a lovely alternative to just plain black!

Onyx glitter
The easiest "recipe" for this project was to combine glitter with Mod Podge and paint it on one layer at a time.  I mixed this on a plate and used a sponge brush that I found in my craft box.  I already had the Mod Podge, so the total cost was $2.99 for the jar of glitter.

Layer #1 on the first shoe!
As you can see, the Mod Podge has a milky finish before it dries.  I waited about 20 minutes between applications and did a total of 3 layers of glitter.  I had to remix my Mod Podge glitter each time and I actually ended up making my mixture a lot heavier on the glitter after the first coat.

Finished and ready to dry!
I left them to dry (and went to a friend's house to enjoy conversation and wine) and came home to find my lovely dried glittery goodness flats!

All dry and sparkly!
Please excuse my super white feet!
I used a little leftover mixture on a spare black headband!
I'm thinking about glitterizing some sandals next!

Have you done any DIY projects lately?

Classroom Pinspiration

We're not even finished with spring break and I'm already starting to think about next school year!  Yup, I'm already getting a to do list made for things I would like to accomplish and make for next year.  Of course, Pinterest is partially to blame for this!  I thought I'd share a few of my biggest pinspirations and how I'm going to incorporate these ideas into my classroom.

I love this arrangement with the round table and stools for group work. I have a "teacher table" (U-shaped table) in my classroom, but I think one like this would be great for when the kids are working on their own on group work.

I really like the drawers for organizing papers. I have baskets for various things right now, but I like the way the drawers hide some of the clutter. These types of drawers are good space savers as well!

These crates are great for the classroom. I have 6 setup as shelving and storage for my Lakeshore collection and other center activities. I really like this idea for storing group supplies so that the kids have things handy and in one convenient place.

For several years I've had the lingering thought that I'd like to come up with more free time activities other than "read your AR book." This is a great idea to give the students choices and it allows you as a teacher to change things up or even let the students select what their choices are going to be.

There's nothing particular that I want to do here, but I just love how organized this classroom looks. It's got a lot going on without being too much... I feel like with my lack of wall space my room can feel very visually cluttered, but at the same time I don't feel like there's much I can do about it.

Are you already planning for next school year?

What projects are on your to do list for next year?

Fashion Friday: Pinterest Style

There's no doubt that Pinterest has had an influence on my style in the past couple years.  I feel like I've always been a somewhat stylish person, but I typically stuck with looks that felt very "safe."  I used to be the queen of matching everything and I've definitely broken out of that shell.

Today I'm sharing 3 tips on how to use Pinterest to spice up your wardrobe.  Pinterest has helped me become a little more stylish, a lot more adventurous, and a more discerning shopper.

***

Pin anything and everything you love...  Even if you wouldn't wear it in real life.

In my mass of outfit pins, I have plenty that are things I wouldn't actually wear in real life.  Neon pink shorts? Not on these legs!  But, I do love this pin for the great color combo and accessories.  Take inspiration from color schemes, accessories, and other pairings.

Use Pinterest to help you be a better shopper.

I can be a pretty indecisive shopper at times, so I love looking up items on Pinterest to see how others have styled it.  If I'm contemplating a purchase this really helps me see how it could work with items already in my closet.  I also like seeing how items look on real people and not just on a website or a model.  Seeing how things are styled in real life has helped make or break a potential purchase.  (I've found this especially helpful when I'm looking at buying something online and I don't get to see it in person first.)

Can I be creative in styling this item in multiple ways?  Do I already have multiple pieces that this will go with?  Are these ideas practical for my lifestyle?  If you can say yes, then it's probably not going to be a bad purchase.

Source: instagram.com on Pinterest

I wore this shirt with a similar gold necklace earlier this week...  I walked in and my boss asked my other coworker if she liked my "Mr. T" necklace.  I explained that my outfit was Pinterest-inspired and that I look things up when I buy them to get ideas.  Great...  Now I just gave the boss one more thing to make fun of me for.  (Don't worry, it's all in good fun!)

Get inspired to style old items in new ways.

I have a lot of older items in my closet that are nice, but I'm just tired of wearing them in the same way.  I turn to Pinterest to look for similar items and ideas on new ways to style them.  There have been a few pieces that could have been easily forgotten (and thrown out) had I not looked for new ideas on how to style them.

Here's a perfect example...  I searched for "polka dot shirt" and ended up finding this pin of the exact shirt I've neglected in my closet! It was great to see how it was paired with cooler weather clothes and that it doesn't just have to be a summer shirt.

How does Pinterest inspire or influence your style?

Fashion Friday: {P}inspired Looks

I haven't done a Fashion Friday post in a while, so I thought I'd whip one up for today.  I love fall weather and fall clothes.  I could live in cute sweaters if the weather allowed.

I thought I'd share some of my favorite Pinterest outfits for the cooler months.  My outfits board is nearing 1,000 pins!  I can definitely say that Pinterest and blogging has made me a bit more adventurous in my outfits.  I'd say my style is trendy-classic.  I like buying basics that will go from season to season and year to year, but I like to add in trendy touches with color and accessories.

So, here you have a few of my favorite {P}inspirations... If you want to pin these onto your own boards, please click the picture to go to Pinterest. None of the these were mine originally and I want the pins to be linked back to the original sources if possible!

Source: gap.com via Conolley on Pinterest

#1 - I have pretty much all of the makings of this identical outfit... The sweater, the purse, the black skinnies. I think black and pink is a color combo that works year-round and will always work with the trends.

#2 - This photo made me totally run out and look for a leopard scarf.  Guess what I'm wearing today?!?  Now, if only I could find that just right striped top.

#3 - A maxi dress is a great option for wearing a dress during cooler weather months.  I wear my denim jacket about once a week, so the dress / jacket combo is one I rock pretty often.

#4 - This pic was from a Gap ad back in the winter when they started carrying cute, colorful stuff again.  I'm beyond excited that Gap has been consistently coming out with cute clothes again this year.  (My bank account may disagree, though!  LOL)  I bought that pink blazer with my birthday coupon, but I haven't worn it again since it's cooled off, so this photo totally inspired me to bust that one out again.

#5 - I think my favorite thing about this pic is that it's pretty much color blocking at its very simplest.  Bright sweater + bright scarf = Cute outfit.  I have tons of sweaters and snagged some nice basic solid colored scarves like that last winter at the grocery store (of all places)!  I love how the two colors pop!

How does Pinterest inspire you?  Do you find yourself creating Pinterest-inspired looks?

The World's Worst Blogger, Buyer's Remorse, & Other Ramblings

I have concluded that I am a bad blogger.  This happened to me last year once school started and I vowed it wouldn't happen again this year...  I pretty much just stop blogging once school starts.  It's not that I don't have grand ideas for posts, but it's that I don't really make time for blogging like I do during the summer.  I've really been trying to stay on top of things this school year and have actually been fairly impressed with myself with how well I've kept up with everything.  I don't really have much going on outside of school right now, so I feel like this has been a year for me to just dive into things and really focus on work.  I'm by no means a perfect teacher or have everything in tip-top shape, but I'm less overwhelmed  than I've felt in years past because I seem to be devoting more time to school.

I really do intend to get back into a blogging routine and start writing more posts about school-related topics.    Like I said, I have plenty of ideas, but it's a matter of sitting down and writing (and finishing) the posts.

***

Have you ever had immediate buyer's remorse?  I experienced that this evening.

I wandered over to the mall this evening and remembered that I had a $25 off a $50 purchase virtual coupon for Limited.  I was super excited when they reopened here last summer (we'd had one but it closed years ago), but I have decided that store may not be the best for me.  First, I feel like I'm always between sizes there and nothing fits me just right.  Everything I try is slightly too big or too small.  Second, they're clothes are just a little dressier than I tend to go for.  If I had reason for those kinds of items it might not be so bad, but I just don't.  I feel like everything I've purchased there doesn't get worn.  I have a few things that still probably have the tags attached!  Not cool.

Anyway, I spent quite a while in there trying on all sorts of items and finally settled upon a striped tee and some earrings.  Nothing spectacular, but I had been looking for a black and white striped top for fall and winter.  The problem was that it was a little too big.  I figured I'd go on and get it and try it on with some things at home to see how it worked.  As soon as I walked out I felt buyer's remorse.  I sucked it up and when I got home played around with some outfit ideas with my new shirt.  I actually made some cute outfits, but they really would look better with one that was the right size.  Then I looked at the earrings...  I like them both alright, but even after the discount they cost more than I usually like to spend on jewelry.  *sigh*  I contemplated for a while and decided that I'll be making a trip back tomorrow to return everything. I'd spent $34 on items I really didn't love.  It's not that I'd spent a ton of money, but as I thought about it, I'd much rather spend that $34 on something I really liked and not stuff I bought just because of a discount.  Sure, I'd had my eye out for a striped tee and I'm always a fan of cute earrings, but those just weren't for me.  Back to the mall tomorrow!  (And then maybe to TJ Maxx to find a better striped shirt!)

***

Speaking of striped shirts...  I've been slightly obsessed with these looks that I found on Pinterest:

{If you want to pin these to your own boards, please click on the image and pin it directly from Pinterest, so that you get it from (hopefully) the original source. I want to be sure the original posters / pinners get credit for their adorable pics!}

Anyway, do you see where my obsession with a black and white striped shirt came from?  I'd also been on the hunt for a cute leopard print scarf.  I searched quite a few places, but couldn't find one that I really liked. I randomly checked Gap's website because although I hadn't seen a leopard scarf in store I had seen a super cute tote.  Sure enough, there was the perfect scarf!  I immediately ordered it (30% off and free shipping helped speed that decision) and am looking forward to getting it in a few days.  No buyer's remorse there!  (Here's the link to the scarf.)

***

Well, there you have my weekend ramblings.  I've got conferences this week, so I know that will keep me busy, but I am hoping to get a few blog posts up up in the next few days.  I know I keep saying that, but it really will happen soon! ; )

The Empty Project

If you've been reading my blog for a while you've probably picked up on the fact that I like beauty and makeup items. In fact, makeup is probably one of my weaknesses right now.  I've seen a few other bloggers and You Tubers post about finishing off products in their collection.  I decided this would be a great plan for me for the next few months.  I'm also going to keep track of which products are worth repurchasing and which ones I could do without.

There are a couple items I really want, but I just can't justify making those purchases without downsizing my current collection and sticking to my budget.  So, from now through November (at least) I'm going to work on finishing off and using up some of the beauty products in my collection.

Here are some of the items I want to work my way through:

  • Eye shadow - I have wayyyy too many of these and of course that's what I want more of.  I'm focusing my use on some of my old faves that don't get as much love as they once did.
  • Lotions - I've already made a huge dent in this collection.  (They previously didn't fit into their single basket and now they do!)  My problem is that I always seem to get new body lotions with those Bath & Body Works coupons for a free Signature item.  I use these everyday, so it's just a matter of working through what I already have without adding a lot more.
  • Mascara - I've got several full-size and quite a few minis in rotation right now.  I have 3 minis I've been rotating and trying to use up before busting into any new ones.  There's no need for me to buy any of these for a while.
  • Eyeliner - I have a lot of random cheap-o eyeliners, yet always reach for my basic black or dark brown.  I'm going to try to experiment with a few of my other varieties more often.
  • Blush - This is another item I have a lot of freebies of...  I'm close to finishing off a few and noticing that I don't really have any cooler weather colors anymore.
  • Lip products - This is one my most ridiculous collections...  I'm working on my almost empties by putting those in my purse where they'll see the most action.  The ones in my bathroom drawer just don't get as much love.
My goal is to work through at least 15 (hopefully more!) products by Thanksgiving and not make (m)any unnecessary additions to my makeup and beauty collection.  I'm pretty well stocked and the only thing I foresee needing to purchase are my everyday hair and face products, foundation, and powder.

I plan to let you know how this goes at least once a month...

For now, here are my August empties... (Or ones that will be by the time August is over at the end of the week.)

(Forgive the fact that I didn't snap pics this month!)

Flirt! Glamourazzi Extreme Lip Lacquer (from Kohl's)
Repurchase?  Possibly.
This one was my go-to for a super long time and then it was retired from my purse to my bathroom drawer.  It's a great formula and pretty long lasting.  I can't remember what color I had (the label was worn off), but it was a nice natural and neutral.  If I didn't have so many other lip products around right now, this would be a good candidate for repurchase, especially since I always seem to have $10 Kohl's coupons.  I have a few Flirt! brand cosmetics from Kohl's and it's actually a pretty decent little brand.

Sephora Collection Full Action Extreme Effect Mascara
Repurchase?  Nope.
I had a mini of this and just wasn't that impressed.  I wanted to blame the fact that it was just a sample and maybe not quite up to par to the full-size, but even after looking at the full-size in store I just don't think I'd spend the money on this.  I ended up laying it with other mascaras because I just didn't get a lot of results from this one alone.  I have pretty skimpy lashes and this one just didn't do it for me.

Bath and Body Works Cherry Vanilla Body Lotion
Repurchase?  Yes, if it pops up during the semi-annual...
I really fell in love with the Signature Vanillas a year or two ago at B&BW.  They don't carry them anymore, but they do pop back during the semi-annual sales.  I love this scent because it's lasting, not overpowering, and is good to pair with other body sprays.

Clinique Blushwear Cream Stick in Rosy Blush
Repurchase?  Color, yes.  Cream blush, no.
This was a free gift and I loved the color of this, but I just don't have the tools, skills, or patience to make cream blush look good on me.  It's just not something I'm good at working with.  I'll admit this one technically isn't an empty, but I did give it to my mom when she mentioned she needed some new blush.  I love Clinique blushes, so I'm going to see if I can try to find a matching color in a compact form.

I'll leave you with a couple pinspirations I've pinned to my makeup and beauty board!  I've been really into ideas for beautiful and striking, yet still everyday eye makeup.  I've been trying to recreate some of these looks with my current makeup.

Be sure to visit the pin and the original website for more info!

Sunday Social Linkup

I stumbled upon this post through A Brunette Duet, which is a new blog I just discovered a couple days ago.    From there I wandered over to A Complete Waste of Makeup and decided to needed to post link up with this one as well because it's all about my favorite season...  FALL!

Sunday Social

***

Here are this week's questions:

What is your favorite fall activity?

Hmmm...  I must say I love college football, so it's probably watching football.  I try to make it to K-State to see one game a year, but otherwise I'm pretty much glued to my TV watching games all day Saturday.  I just love the sound of college football on my TV on a Saturday, even if I'm not all that interested in the teams playing!

My other favorite activity is hitting up arts and crafts fairs.  There's one that I try to go to each September in a really small town about 45 minutes away.  It's crazy busy there, but I always seem to find some cute new K-State items or fall decor!

Do you follow a football team?  If so, which one and why?

That's pretty obvious...  K-STATE WILDCATS!!!

I think I've become an even more hardcore fan since graduating from there.  I had season tickets one year and only went to a game and a half!  My older self hates my younger self for wasting such a treasure!

I don't really follow the NFL, but I do try to stay somewhat educated on how the KC Chiefs are doing since they are the closest pro team.  My second favorite college team is the OU Sooners...  I'm not sure why, but I've just always liked OU and I'll cheer for them as long as they're not playing my Wildcats!

What is something fun about fall in your area?

The weather here in October is usually pretty awesome.  I love sweater weather where I don't have to pile on a huge coat.  Like I said before, I also like hitting up craft fairs, going to the corn maize, or an outdoor market in the fall.  Our state fair is at the beginning of September and can still be pretty hot, but last year it was perfectly cool and lovely!  Any excuse to be outside and enjoy the weather is great with me!

Favorite fall outfit staples?

I'm actually working on a whole blog post on this for the coming week or so, so stay tuned.

My fall wardrobe is by far my favorite...  I love cardigans, comfy sweaters, jeans, cute hoodies, fun scarves,  and clogs are probably my most worn items.

Here are some of my favorite fall outfit pins from Pinterest...

I only wish I could look this chic everyday of fall!

What are you looking forward to most about this coming fall season?

I really don't have anything exciting planned for this fall, so I think it would just have to be all of the little things coming up that I've already mentioned...  The cooler weather, the outdoor activities, college football, and giving my sweater collection some time to shine!

Favorite fall holiday?

I'd have to say Thanksgiving.  I love teaching about thankfulness to my third graders and making them realize how truly blessed they are to be surrounded by those who care about them.  I also love the food the comes along with Thanksgiving.  My grandpa makes a stellar turkey and my mom spends about 3 days "whipping up" some amazing sides.  I've learned not to load up at our actual sit-down meal in the afternoon, but rather to just pace myself throughout the day!  Ha ha!  And of course, I love what comes after Thanksgiving...  Black Friday!

***

Now it's your turn to hop over to A Complete Waste of Makeup and read what all of the other bloggers have to say...  Seriously, there's over 100 submissions already, so I'm totally bound to discover some new blogs to follow!
